Forever “I do”

Tested, refined and proved by the storms and rain of life- this is true love.

As a young bride, you hope that your wedding day will be all sunshine and gentle breezes, and anything other than the most perfect weather may bring about tears and broken hearts.

But as a seasoned spouse, you know that broken plans are not only inevitable, but they bring opportunities to grow in a deeper, stronger, more genuine way.

So when the forecast for our long anticipated 10th anniversary shoot called for rain, my wonderful couple was willing to trust my lead and hike to the hills. And, oh! What a stunning session it was!

There was something thrilling about being able to direct this dear husband and wife. When asked to gaze into each others eyes, they shared ten years of hopes and dreams. When he held her tight, there was ten years of learning to love each other well. When she held his hand, there was ten years of holding onto each other, no matter what.

And when the rain fell, rather than sadness over broken plans and expectations, there was a joint exhilaration in embracing the unknown, because they faced it together. And that resolve poured depth into these photos that moves me even now.

I will always love capturing the sparkle of young love in my engagement sessions, and there will always be a joy in documenting the joy of the wedding day. But there is something beautifully stirring when given the opportunity to celebrate an anniversary.

It’s one thing to say “I do” on a beautiful day in a beautiful dress. But I will always be amazed by the beauty of saying “I do” every morning, even on the imperfect days. After 16 years of marriage, I know how hard, but how rewarding that daily “I do” decision can be. So when I can celebrate the commitment of selfless love in others it is a deep delight.
